ABOUT US
Old Buffalo Hunters Club (OBHC) was founded out of a true passion for hunting and the desire to create products for like-minded individuals. The founding OBHC member, Gary (Pictured) always had a passion for hunting. Throughout his life, he went on many hunts but always reserved his true passion for African animals.
Our story began in 2014 when Gary took a life-changing trip to South Africa. This trip was the culmination of years of saving and planning. Gary was off to hunt his first Cape Buffalo, ultimately leading to the creation of our club. While on that trip he befriended an African hunter named Christo and his family. The family promptly named him Oom Gary which means "Uncle Gary" in Afrikaans. The two instantly shared their love of wildlife. Upon Oom Gary's return, the OBHC was in full force with its three founding members; Gary Kirsch, Dennis Satyi, and Marv Malcotti.
In 2017 Oom Gary was determined to return to the land he loved. This time Oom Gary took his son, Zachary, with him. Spending time as a family and the shared companionship was contagious. A fire was lit within Gary and his son. Several trips followed and Zachary was eventually inducted into the OBHC. Unfortunately in January 2024, Oom Gary passed away leaving an immense void. He loved his family and loved the African bush. Our story is a continuation of his...
MY STORY
My story began as I was raised hunting whitetail deer with my father. After high school, I enlisted in the United States Army where I would go on to serve for 22 more years. As with most people, my life involved more work and less time spent with my father, Gary. It wasn't until 2017 when Gary was planning his second trip to South Africa to hunt with Chivic African Safaris and Christo, that a general conversation took place about the trip. He uttered 6 words that changed my life forever - "Why don't you go with me?" I jumped at the idea and we quickly booked our flights.
I was overwhelmed with happiness and glad to be spending time with my father. Excitement was written all over my face and I did not try to hide it.
In a moment of clarity, I glanced over at my wife and could see something was not quite right. What is it? What's wrong? She simply replied, "I want to go!" Within seconds her flight was booked. I was apprehensive, did not know what to expect, scared, and a little nervous. Before we knew it, we were on a 17-hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.
After leaving the airport and with one breath of fresh air, I knew I was hooked. Immediately we met my father's friend Christo, and we felt like part of his family. From the start our trip was perfect. My wife, father, and I enjoyed life to the fullest. The African bush treated us well. I fell in love with hunting again and reaffirmed my belief that the hunt is secondary to the time spent with those sharing the experience with you. Christo and my father believed that "it's all about the adventure" which became the motto for the OBHC.
Two more trips followed. The time spent together and the experiences are unforgettable and life-changing. Gary loved Africa and he loved the OBHC. As a small, veteran-owned company, we do not have corporate pockets or large investors. We are a family-owned organization that is committed to carrying on Oom Gary's love for the African hunting lifestyle. I thank each of you for visiting the Old Buffalo Hunters Club and honoring my father.
